A Sneak Peek

A work in progress here.  We are decorating Mira's and Beckett's room with an ocean theme.  Mira has drawn some wonderful pictures of sea creatures on fabric squares for me to embroider.  These will be Incorporated into the patchwork duvet cover we are making for her bed.  The rest of the fabric will be from Heather Ross's Mendocino collection.  Can't wait to show you the finished product!

Who's That Gardener?

In our own backyard!  Maybe because we're in the middle of Los Angeles or maybe because we haven't done it before, but this seems like magic!

Laminated Fabric Love

I was looking for some oilcloth to cover this bench (sorry, no before photo) and I found this fabulous Michael Miller laminated fabric!  So much softer to work with and still kid friendly! 

My New Studio

It's almost there!  A few more things, like a pendant light over the cutting table (no overheads) and some work on the bathroom, need doing.  Overall, I'm pretty pleased.

 

 

Piggy Pants

I've been saving this fabric for awhile.  I wish I had more because I was tired when I made these and cut them wrong the first time.  The fabric frays easily so you really have to use a serger or leave a lot of seam allowance.  It is from Trefle and I don't think they make this print anymore but you can find lots of similar patterns at Superbuzzy.

Brotherly Love

What's been happening.

Just a quick summary of events which have kept me away from blogging for so many weeks! 
It's all good, happily.

Zander and Violet competed in the La Jolla open on the weekend of April 25th.  They had a great time and did very well.   That's Violet in the Fedora and Zander in the "hair".
  It was also the 30th birthday of Zander's coach, Devin, so I made him a beanie which Zander is modeling  below.  The pattern is from Kody May Knits and is a free download!
Then we took Coach Devin out to dinner and got goofy.

And a great time was had at the hotel pool the next morning.

The next weekend we MOVED to a great new house...pictures to come in a later post after more unpacking.

Then Mira amazed us all with a performance!  On a real stage!  With lots of real people watching!  This was huge for her!  And she was wonderful!!!

Thinking about this...

    ...since the shop is on hold temporarily.  Any local takers?  I have space and machines.

Birthday, Crown and Some Confusing Cupcakes (April Fools!)

Violet turned 9 on Saturday.  I made her this crown from a great tutorial over at juicy-bits.typepad.com.

We made these April Fool's cupcakes from the book, Hello Cupcake. Spaghetti and meatbals, peas and carrots, and mashed potatoes with gravy...YUMMO! 

...and a good skating time was had by all, including the baby, with help from big brother, Zander!

And to continue with our April Fool's line of thinking the "goody bags" were Popcorn containers with popcorn on top but underneath were joy buzzers, fake poop, squirt rings, snap gum and fake cockroach peeking it's head out of the kernels.  I forgot to take pictures of them, unfortunately! 

Mama's Got A Brand New Bag

From the book Sew What! Bags by Lexie Barnes.  This is the City Satchel.  I added some heavy duty interfacing between layers on the front and back for structure.  Though, the pattern said lining it was optional, I didn't feel it would be finished without it, and it was easy enough to do.  The instructions were very clear and well thought out.  The strap was a bit long for me so I folded it over at the shoulder and stitched it.  All in all, I'm very pleased with it!
